PEARL Programme

Food Security, Gender Equality, Livelihoods and Safe Communities

Programme Overview

The PEARL Programme focuses on food security, gender equality, livelihoods and safe communities. Through food and nutrition interventions, gender and equity initiatives, and community safety and peacebuilding activities, FHSI works to reduce vulnerability, inequality, violence and social exclusion.

Core Focus Areas

  • Food & Nutrition Security: Promoting sustainable agricultural practices and improving nutritional outcomes
  • Gender Equality: Addressing gender-based violence and promoting equitable opportunities
  • Livelihood Development: Supporting sustainable income-generating activities
  • Community Safety & Peacebuilding: Fostering social stability and protecting individual rights

Why This Matters

The programme recognises that food insecurity, gender inequality, poverty and violence are interconnected threats that undermine human dignity and community resilience. PEARL addresses these challenges holistically through integrated interventions.

Our Approach

The PEARL Programme strengthens community resilience and participation by:

  • Supporting vulnerable populations to build sustainable livelihoods
  • Empowering women and girls through education and economic opportunities
  • Building community capacity for peacebuilding and conflict resolution
  • Integrating gender equality, youth participation and human rights across all activities

Expected Impact

Through PEARL, FHSI seeks to move communities from vulnerability to protection and resilience, contributing to a Uganda where people can:

  • Access nutritious food and sustainable livelihoods
  • Live free from gender-based violence and discrimination
  • Participate meaningfully in community decision-making
  • Build peaceful, inclusive communities
