Food Security: Freedom from Hunger
At FHSI, Food Security is the foundation of human dignity. We believe no Ugandan should go to bed hungry. Our programs ensure sustainable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food for all — especially vulnerable rural and urban households.
Through climate-smart agriculture, seed banks, farmer training, and market access initiatives, we empower communities to produce, store, and sell their own food — building resilience against drought, floods, and economic shocks.
Our Food Security Approach
We integrate traditional knowledge with modern techniques to deliver lasting impact:
- Promoting drought-resistant and high-yield crop varieties
- Establishing community grain reserves and seed banks
- Training women and youth in sustainable farming practices
- Improving post-harvest storage to reduce losses
- Linking farmers to markets and financial services
- Advocating for pro-smallholder agricultural policies

Food security is central to Strategy 50 — our goal to reduce human security threat-related deaths by 50% by 2050. When families have reliable access to food, children thrive, communities stabilize, and peace takes root.
